I’m studying statistics and could use some clarification on the concept of an alternative hypothesis. Can someone explain what an alternative hypothesis is and how it relates to null hypothesis in statistical testing? I’d appreciate any examples or insights you can provide to better understand this concept.

The null hypothesis represents the status quo or the default assumption. It predicts no effect or no relationship between variables in the population. However, The alternative hypothesis is the opposite of the null hypothesis.It states that there is an effect or relationship in the population.
An alternative hypothesis is a theory that contradicts the null hypothesis. For instance, the alternative hypothesis states that something will be untrue if the null hypothesis states it is true. When refuting the null hypothesis, you usually test the alternative hypothesis.
