My sleep apnea is pretty bad. During my first sleep study, I had around 90 instances of no breathing throughout the night. I’ve been using a CPAP, but I’m struggling with it—it just feels uncomfortable for so many reasons. Is there any surgery or alternative that could fix this so I don’t need the machine? I’ve tried different things, but nothing seems to work. Any advice or experience would be appreciated!
Nope, there are actually a few options, though CPAP is considered the best. I used a Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) for a while, and there’s also Inspire surgery or jaw surgery for some people. Have you tried those?
Thanks! I’ll definitely look into those. Do you think Inspire works for everyone?
Not for everyone, but it’s worth asking your doctor about. Some people have great results, while others still need CPAP after surgery.
I feel your pain. CPAP can be really uncomfortable at first, but I switched to the ResMed P30i nasal pillow mask, and it was a game-changer. The hose is on top of my head, so it’s much easier to move around. Maybe try a different mask?
Totally agree! I switched to the P30i, too. It’s much more comfortable and doesn’t leak as much.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll look into getting that mask. The hose on top sounds like a huge improvement.
Surgeries like Inspire or jaw surgery might help, but they aren’t guaranteed to fully eliminate sleep apnea. A lot of people still need CPAP after surgery, so maybe try adjusting your settings or mask first.
Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of—going through surgery and still needing the machine.
I get it, CPAP is uncomfortable, but think of it as something that helps you live better. It’s not fun, but it works well for most people without the risks of surgery.
If surgery is something you want to explore, you could look into Inspire or other options, but definitely consult with your doctor. They can figure out if you’re a good candidate.
