Good flavor substitute for cumin?

Hey everyone, I’m super sensitive to cumin and can’t eat it, but I miss that depth of flavor in my dishes. I also can’t have onions or garlic. Does anyone know of a good substitute that would give a similar taste or fill that flavor gap? Thanks in advance!

Nigella or caraway seeds are good alternatives if you’re looking for that cumin-like flavor! You could also add smoked paprika for some depth.

Smoked paprika sounds interesting! I’ll give it a try. Thanks!

Turmeric and caraway might be a good combo to try. It won’t taste exactly the same, but it might give you that earthy flavor you’re looking for.

I haven’t used turmeric much, but I’ll definitely try it with caraway!

If you want to experiment, try a pinch of coffee or cocoa powder for a deep, bitter undertone. It might sound weird, but it adds a lot of depth to dishes.

I’ve never thought of coffee as a spice! I’ll have to test that out, thanks!

Have you considered using sumac? It has a citrusy flavor, which might not be a direct substitute, but it can add some complexity to your dishes.

I love sumac! I’ll try using it more to see if it works for what I’m missing.

Coriander might be a good alternative, but be careful if you’re sensitive to cumin—it’s in the same family and could cause similar issues.

I’ll have to stay away from coriander then. Thanks for the heads up!
