What’s the best way to get better at world-building?

I’m looking to improve my overall world-building skills. Not just in terms of specific elements like organizations or creatures, but in developing a world as a whole.

Worldbuilding is as much a hobby as it is a creative skill. Like any other endeavor, it requires passion, patience, and practice.

It’s all about practice. The more time you put into the hobby, the more details and knowledge you’ll gain.

I began with a character and a map. From there, I consider how regions would function and interact with each other in a systematic way.

The best way to improve at art is simply to practice it regularly.

You can make use of the many random generation tools available to create maps, names, prompts, or plots.

Alternatively, you could take the opposite approach and follow structured worldbuilding guides that offer a reliable framework as you develop your world.

Either way, the key to improving worldbuilding is to consistently exercise your creativity by drawing from various sources of inspiration, while also documenting everything to maintain consistency and avoid contradictory details.
