So today I realized that the Digital Wellbeing app on my phone is from Google, and you have to agree to their privacy policy. I really like the app but was wondering if there’s an open source alternative to it? Would love to know if anyone’s using one!
ActivityWatch is a good open source alternative. It’s still in the early stages, but they have apps for desktop and Android. No iOS version yet, though. You can check it out here: ActivityWatch · GitHub.
Thanks! I’ll definitely take a look. Hopefully, they get an iOS version soon.
I’ve been using ActionDash, but it’s not open-source. They have a transparent privacy policy and don’t sell your data. It’s a one-time purchase, not a subscription, which is pretty rare these days.
Interesting, thanks for the suggestion! I’ll check out their privacy policy. It’s good to hear they’re not into the data-selling business.
BTW, for those worried about privacy, the app still works even if you deny it access to the internet.
I can recommend a few FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) apps like Get Off Your Phone, SuperUStats, and TimeLimit. They’re all on F-Droid. They don’t have fancy UIs, but they get the job done.
Thanks for the recs! I’ll check those out. Fancy UIs aren’t a must for me, as long as they work well.
YourHour might be another option for tracking your app usage, but it’s not open-source.
Thanks, but I’m mainly looking for open-source apps. I’ll keep it in mind, though!
